The trip to Myanmar begins in Mandalay, one of the country\u2019s most important cities for understanding its cultural and religious identity. As the former capital of the last Burmese kingdom, Mandalay remains one of the principal centres of Theravada Buddhism. The city continues to preserve a vibrant monastic life that shapes the daily lives of its inhabitants.<\/p>\n

Our first visit will take us to the famous U Bein Bridge, widely regarded as the longest teakwood bridge in the world. At sunset, we will admire one of Myanmar\u2019s most iconic landscapes, as the fading light reflects on the water while monks, pilgrims and local residents make their way across this historic crossing.<\/p>\n

Later, we will visit Mahargandaryone Monastery, one of the country’s most prestigious monastic institutions. Here, we will observe the daily routines of hundreds of monks and novice monks, gaining insight into the discipline, education and traditions that continue to define Burmese Buddhism. Bagan: temples, markets and rural life<\/h3>\n

We will begin by exploring some of Bagan\u2019s most remarkable monuments: the elegant Sulamani Temple and watch the sunset over this breathtaking sacred landscape, one of the country’s most iconic sights. Also, we will stroll through a traditional rural market, discovering the daily life of local communities and the products that sustain them.<\/p>\n

Later, we will visit Shwezigon Pagoda, one of Myanmar\u2019s most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites. We will also explore Wet Kyi Inn Gubyauk Kyi Temple, renowned for its magnificent mural paintings, before visiting Ananda Temple, widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of Burmese religious architecture.<\/p>\n

Our exploration will continue across Bagan\u2019s vast archaeological complex. There, a wide of extraordinary historical monuments stand alongside small farming villages and cultivated fields that preserve ways of life little changed for generations. As a result, this stage of the trip to Myanmar will reveal one of Southeast Asia\u2019s most fascinating cultural landscapes.<\/p>\n

Mount Popa: volcanoes, pilgrimages and popular traditions<\/h3>\n

The trip to Myanmar will then continue to Mount Popa, an extinct volcanic mountain regarded as one of the country\u2019s most sacred sites. It’s closely associated with the worship of the nats, the protective spirits of Burmese tradition.<\/p>\n

Along the way, we will stop to discover the traditional production of palm-based products, including palm juice, local sweets and palm liquor. Afterwards, we will reach the ancient volcanic plug crowned by the Mount Popa shrine.<\/p>\n

Those who wish may climb the long staircase leading to the summit, where spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding landscape await. Consequently, this visit combines religious heritage, popular traditions and some of the most representative scenery in central Myanmar.<\/p>\n

The Pa O people: trekking and traditional life in the mountains<\/h2>\n

One of the most authentic experiences of the trip to Myanmar will be our encounter with the Pa O people, one of the principal ethnic communities of Shan State.<\/p>\n

We will embark on a trekking route through the mountains surrounding Kalaw, following trails that wind through cultivated fields, forests and small rural villages. During the walk, we will discover the traditional way of life of the Pa O communities, whose inhabitants depend largely on agriculture and continue to preserve many ancestral customs.<\/p>\n

Pa O women are easily recognised by their black clothing and distinctive brightly coloured turbans. We will also have the opportunity to meet local villagers, learning about their customs, community life and close relationship with the natural environment. This stage of the trip to Myanmar will therefore offer valuable insight into one of the country\u2019s greatest cultural treasures.<\/p>\n

Inle Lake: navigation, craftsmanship and villages on the water<\/h2>\n

The trip to Myanmar will continue to Inle Lake, one of the country’s most iconic landscapes. Here, nature, tradition and everyday life come together in a truly unique setting.<\/p>\n

Before reaching the lake, we will enjoy a walk through tropical mountain scenery and small rural villages, passing some of the most beautiful landscapes in Shan State.<\/p>\n

The boat trip will continue to Kaylar Village, accessible only by water, where we will discover a way of life entirely adapted to the lake environment. Finally, we will visit the historic Nga Hpe Kyaung Monastery, popularly known as the “Jumping Cats Monastery”, one of the oldest religious buildings on the lake.<\/p>\n

In this way, this stage of the trip to Myanmar will introduce us to one of the country’s most distinctive cultural landscapes, where local traditions remain deeply connected to the water.<\/p>\n

Hpa-An: sacred caves, mountains and Karen culture<\/h2>\n

The trip to Myanmar will then take us to Hpa-An, a region renowned for its dramatic limestone mountains, Buddhist caves and the rich cultural heritage of the communities living in this part of south-eastern Myanmar.<\/p>\n

We will begin by visiting the spectacular Sadan Cave, one of Myanmar\u2019s largest natural caverns and one of the region\u2019s most impressive attractions. Afterwards, we will visit a local village to gain a closer understanding of everyday life in the area.
\nWe will also climb a panoramic hill offering magnificent views over the rice fields, limestone formations and landscapes that characterise Hpa-An.<\/p>\n

Later, we will explore Kawt Kun Cave, decorated with countless Buddha images that make it one of the region\u2019s most important Buddhist sanctuaries. Finally, we will visit a traditional Karen village, where we will discover some of the community\u2019s most distinctive cultural traditions, including the ancient custom of sacred leg tattoos still preserved by some of the older men. As such, this stage of the trip to Myanmar will provide deeper insight into the country\u2019s remarkable ethnic and cultural diversity.<\/p>\n

Yangon: Myanmar\u2019s great spiritual and multicultural capital<\/h2>\n

The trip to Myanmar will conclude in Yangon, the country\u2019s former capital. It’s a city where colonial heritage, cultural diversity and some of Southeast Asia\u2019s most important Buddhist sanctuaries coexist.<\/p>\n

We will visit the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda at sunset, when its immense golden stupa glows in the evening light as thousands of devotees gather to pray. Regarded as Myanmar\u2019s most revered Buddhist shrine, it stands as one of the country\u2019s greatest national symbols.<\/p>\n

Also, we will stroll through the lively Chinatown and the historic Muslim Quarter, two of the best places to experience Yangon\u2019s cosmopolitan character. In addition, we will explore a local market, where we can observe the vibrant commercial activity that forms part of the city’s daily life.<\/p>\n

Finally, we will visit Chauk Htat Gyi Temple, home to one of Myanmar\u2019s largest reclining Buddha statues and one of Yangon\u2019s most important places of worship.<\/p>\n
