20 Nov. - 01 Dec. 2023 (12 d. / 10 n.) / TRIP COMPLETED

This ethnographic trip to Cameroon will bring us into contact with two of the most remote and isolated tribal communities in Central Africa, which follow the same ancient lifestyle as their ancestors.

The first group is the remote and unknown Saapa tribe, who live in the Vokre Mountains of the Sahelian north. We will witness their masquerades and learn about their fascinating culture and unique traditions.

The second ethnic group is the Baka pygmies, who live deep in the eastern rainforest of the country. They are one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes on the planet. The Baka pygmies maintain their nomadic lifestyle and their deep connection to the spirit of the jungle, Ejengui.

On the way to the sacred mountain of the Saapa, we will come into contact with other communities such as the Dupa tribe and their traditional dances or the Mbororo nomads and their intricate facial scarifications.

It is an ethnographic trip to Cameroon focused on culture, architecture and nature. We will live with different cultural realities and enjoy unique contrasts. In the trip itinerary you will find all the details. Download it using the form that you will find below. Click here to easily reach the form.

The tour guide will be Víctor Gil, an expert filmmaker and a great connoisseur of the destination.

We will live unique cultural experiences with the ethnic groups of the Faro Valley

Saapa tribe
We will visit a Saapa village with a privileged location that will provide us with unprecedented views on top of the mountains. We will be welcomed with a joyous celebration, during which we will witness the traditional dances of this community. If we are lucky we will witness, together with the inhabitants of the town, an initiation rite. In addition, we will see how they prepare and weave their traditional clothing made with local cotton.

Dupa tribe
We will discover the architecture, sacred forests, and customs of the Dupás, who continue to cling to their ancestral way of life.

Mbororo tribe
One of the most fascinating peoples in the region are undoubtedly the Mbororo, a nomadic livestock ethnic group that preserves its traditional culture as well as the custom of decorating the face and part of the body with beautiful and complex tattoos that mark social class, and marital status of which takes them.

Architectural tour of Ngaoundéré

The city of Ngaoundéré maintains its old medieval atmosphere around the Lamido Palace (Sultanate), the old quarter, where some traditional adobe houses survive, and the old colonial market.

We will meet the last clans of traditional Baka pygmies

The Baka Pygmies of Cameroon have a special connection with the tropical forest and retain much of their animist culture. We will enjoy their polyphonic songs and the sacred dance Ejengi (spirit of the jungle) in this magical place in the middle of the jungle.

Colonial architecture of the Germanic period

We will pass through some towns of colonial origin where some buildings from the Germanic period (1884-1916) still remain.
