Tribes of southern Angola

We will initiate contact with the different tribes of Angola through the nyaneka group. First, we will meet the Handa. Only women over 50 still wear their traditional attire, but they wear many ornaments and are spectacular. We will continue to the territory of the Muilas, where we will set up camp next to a town to learn about the reality of the lowland and mountain Muilas. After visiting a Gambue village, we will continue to a camp of the hunting and gathering tribe of the Sans. We will be introduced by the local guide to the socio-cultural reality of Oncocua. The original inhabitants are the Tua people. They are at the bottom of the social ladder. They are followed by the Hakaonas, goat herders. Finally, the Himba with their large herds are at the top of the social ladder. After the visit to Namibe, we will continue to the territory of the cuepes, the oldest tribe in this part of Africa and of which there are only 150 individuals left. We will travel to the wildest tribal area in Angola, the territory of the Cubans who were not conquered by the Portuguese until 1936. We will explore the area with the aim of locating the mysterious tribe of the tjimbas, a tribe about which there is no information. Arriving at the base of the forested mountains of Leba we will visit our last tribe, the Nngendelengos famous for their mohawk hairstyles and geisha-style headdresses.
