Many women of the Kamberi tribe sport spectacular facial and body tattoos, as well as piercings on the lower and upper lips. Their villages are still built with traditional materials, and some houses have decorative motifs in animal shapes.

Dukkawa tribe

We will meet the old women of the Dukkawa tribe, who probably have the most impressive body tattoos in West Africa. Furthermore, the Dukkawa have the habit of filing their teeth.

Dakakari tribe

During this trip to northern Nigeria, we will have the opportunity to see the original leather loincloths of the Dakakari. These are usually used mainly by young men during initiation rites.

Gwari tribe

We will visit Bwari, an ancient kingdom, to learn about the culture of the Gwari or Gbagyi tribe. There, we will meet the local king and attend a traditional masquerade.

Mumuye tribe

This tribe is famous for its sculpted wooden masks and fetishes. Also, they are expert cotton weavers. We will visit the political and religious center of the Mumuye tribe, Pantisawa. There, we will visit the traditional houses of the Mumuye and meet the animists, who continue to cling to their ancestral customs. In addition, we will attend a traditional ceremony.

Lunguda and Bachata tribes

The oldest members of these tribes retain traditional scarifications. We will meet the chiefs and elders of both tribes and explore the place to learn about the local culture.

► We will discover the culture of the Hausa people

During this trip to northern Nigeria, we will travel through the emirates of Sokoto and Zuru to learn about the culture of the Hausa people.

Hausa architecture

Hausa architecture stands out for its adaptation to the dry and hot ecosystem, since its thick walls keep the interior cooler and more insulated. The buildings are full of colorful motifs and decorations. The complexity of the decoration of the facades usually demonstrates the wealth and social position of the owner.

► We will meet the Fulani

The Fulani or Pulo of northern Nigeria have beautiful tattoos and special hairstyles.
