Tribal trip to Tanzania from 5 to 15 August 2024 / TRIP COMPLETED

Tribal trip to Tanzania to experience one of the last pure tribal ceremonies in Africa, the Eunoto Festival of the Maasai people, which will take place this year in the territory of Tanzania. This is the Maasai rite of passage, during which the male members of the tribe pass into adulthood. We will camp near the community in order to experience the Eunoto Maasai ceremony up close and in depth.

In addition, this tribal trip to Tanzania will be enriched with another tribal experience with the cattle herders of the Datoga tribe, who, in that same period, also celebrate the Bungeda Ceremony. It consists of various funeral rites to commemorate the deceased.

► We will live the Eunoto Festival of the Maasai people

The Eunoto Festival of the Maasai people is a vital male initiation ceremony performed every generation (every 20 years) to mark the important transition of Moran (Maasai warriors) into adulthood. This is the most celebrated ceremony among the Maasai people and is distinguished by its colorful and unique customs, which are highly honored in their lives. Moran, who undergoes the ceremony, will go from young warriors (Il-Barnot) to adult warriors (Ilmorijo). This new status grants men the ability to marry and participate in decision-making processes in the community, preparing them to become future elders.

► We will attend various Bungeda funeral ceremonies of the Datoga tribe

The Bungeda ceremony of the Datoga tribe includes various funeral rites and events dedicated to a socially relevant deceased member. During this ceremony, the deceased is buried wrapped in cattle skin inside a construction made of mud and tree trunks. The Datoga tribe believes that the spirit of the deceased is still alive and acts as a transmitter of the people's prayers to God.
