Trip to Bangladesh, the little great jewel of Asia, designed to visit different ecosystems, visit the main cities and get to know some of the country's ethnic minorities.

We will start from the capital Dhaka to see the plains irrigated by the Brahmaputra, Padma, Meghna rivers and endless tributaries. We will advance towards its mouth to the Sunderbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world. We will visit some floating markets and fishing villages to learn about local traditions. We will continue until the city of Chittagong, where we will visit the large shipbreaking yard. We will end the route in the Bandarban region, near the border with Tripura and Myanmar. In the Nilachal hill and the Chilluk mountains we will have the opportunity to learn about the reality and customs of various ethnic minorities such as the Tripura, the Mru and the Bawm.

Dhaka and surroundings

Dhaka
Entering through Dhaka is in itself a powerful experience and one that is worth living. We will spend two whole days to visit this Asian macro-city and get a little closer to the daily life of the locals. We will visit the most important markets of Dhaka: Kawran Bazar, Amin Bazar, Shakhari Bazar, Islampur Bazar and Chawk. We will see brickyard workers loading and unloading ships. We will walk through slums, Old Dhaka and Sadarghat pier. Depending on the time we have available, we will make a rickshaw circuit through the Bengali capital.

Batik and Rupshi
We will visit Batik in Narayanganj. It is a colorful city famous for the fabric manufacturing process. We will go to a textile factory where they will show us the dyeing and drying process of these fabrics. Rupshi is a village well known for the production of jamdani, a fine muslin fabric that was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2013.

Fascinating floating markets

We will enjoy a boat ride through the Banaripara canals while we observe the beauty of the landscape that surrounds us. We will move between markets and floating villages to appreciate life in this area and mix with the locals.

Chittagong

It is the second largest city in Bangladesh. It is located on the banks of the Karnapuhuli River and is home to the largest seaport in the country. We will visit the largest shipbreaking yard in the Subcontinent and the central market.

Bandarban Highlands Ethnic Minorities

Nilachal
This hill is situated at 2,000 m above sea level and offers a panoramic view of Bandarban. We will take a gentle walk up the hill, famous for the beauty of its landscape. We will visit an indigenous tribe called Tripura. This ethnic group maintains a large part of its culture and traditions intact, as well as its own language.

Communities of the Chilluk Mountains
We will visit the Mru people, a subgroup of the Chin people. They profess a religious syncretism between Buddhism and Animism. In Faruk Para we will meet the Bawm tribe, also known as Bom. It is one of the minority ethnic groups in the country.
